About me

Hi, I am Baz (Barry Haynes),

A retired Oceanographer from the UK. I now work as a Professional Photographer based in Dorset Englad.

I studied Biology, Ecology, Geology and Oceanography at the Open University University and did a Post Graduate Degree in Environmental Management at Surrey University.

I worked for the UK Government as a Marine Advisor on their "Common Fisheries Policy Project".

I was lucky enough to travel extensivley around Europe and the United States where my love for photography was rekindled with the advent of Digital Equipment, I still hang on to my Olympus OM2 and stable of lenses just in case!I am based in the UK but work extensively in the USA.

I'm an avid traveller I love to be near the ocean or in the mountains or ideally both at the same time. BigSur California is one of My Favourite Travel DestinationsI love to take photographs, Cycle, Walk, create computer graphics, build computers, study Ken-jitsu, Study generally, Walk, Hike, Climb, Scuba dive, and generally enjoy life.

Photography has been my passion for more than 30 years. I have always used Olympus cameras as a travel photographer, they made just about the lightest and most compact DSLR's you could find.

I use an OMD EM1 MK2 and an Olympus E-5 as my main cameras and have a E-620 body which I use when I travel as it is much lighter, my lenses are: Olympus Digital, 14-42mm, 12-60mm, 40-150mm and 70-300mm macro, I find that these cover my needs in all situations.

My Photography covers most areas with a slant towards Landscape, Travel and Natural History Work.

So please take a moment to look around my galleries at some of the places I have been privileged to visit.

Dorset Photography Workshops

I also offer one to one or small group workshops tailored specifically to your current expertise, and at a time that suits you

New to digital photography and want to learn the basics?

More advanced and want to improve your technique?

Need help with exposure, composition and filtering?

Working from my base in the East Dorset village of West Moors near Ringwood and Ferndown, I offer either a full day or half day teaching you photography techniques. This will be tailored to suit your current level of expertise which we will discuss over coffee (or tea if you prefer) before we start.

The half day consists of approximately 4 hours of theory (not as boring as it sounds) learning about your specific camera's controls, apertures, shutter speeds, composition, filtering etc.

The full day consists of the same followed by approximately 4 hours out in the field putting it all into practise. We will then go back to base and download a few of your photographs for a critique session if there's time.

I don’t provide equipment, transport or food but I do provide an Intensive and enjoyable training session that will leave you thoroughly familiar with your equipment, and confident in your ability to take better photographs.

These workshops can be tailored to any genre of photography that you are interested in but the beautiful Dorset countryside is ideal for Landscape Photography
